Gift to others...

Giving to others is important, so often it is easy to forget just how much we have and how blessed we are. This year especially with all the uncertainty in the world we live in.  Coming from Africa we know how much we can do, with just with what we have. When we do it collectively, even in small and simple ways, it can have an impact and be meaningful in a much larger scale way than we can ever imagine. To us we do it, because it makes a difference and we want everyone to have a chance in life, choices and the joy to do the same for others. Time or money, everyone do what they can in the way they can. So to donate and volunteer can add so much to our lives and enrich it in many impactful ways. Our local food banks are in great need at this moment, especially at Christmas time. All alike, who maybe never had to think of where food will be coming from. This pandemic has affected family livelihoods for many people.
Baked goods we share with those around us all year round. We all have talents and gifts, some knit or crochet and can make warm mitts, hats and socks. No matter how small, we all have our own talents. So easy to do acts of kindness. It starts with us, when we take the first step to do something for another, just because we decided to step outside the box. Not waiting for a rainy day or someone to asks us to do. So on the sixth day the advent calendar said: Give to another.
This pattern was started before, had to pull it all out because of dropped stitches. It is a first attempt and perfection it is not, no drop stitches so far, it is almost halfway. A knitter is not something which I will ever be great at, but trying to knit will hopefully improve this skill?
This piece is coming along nicely,  it will take some time. What makes this pattern fun, someone, aka Meg Hawkley has done the hard work.  So no guessing what colour gets stitched where, it is all broken down into bite size pieces. Just follow the pictures, reminds me of paint by numbers.Just like counted cross stitch, has symbols for the different colours on the graph paper for the designs. Found the pattern above at the top for the small decorations for the tree the other day  kept it from 1993. The mouse is the first one which will be started. Then the candle, for next year on the tree..

  1. we have a local program here called "Food for Kids" and we donate monthly to that - it is always amazing to hear how many kids and families need food here

  2. Gift cards for grocery stores, or cash donations, make excellent gifts to food banks. The food banks can often buy wholesale if they have cash. Gift cards can be used to buy milk and maybe a treat or two.
I tell all my knitting students to knit every day, even if only for ten minutes. It helps you muscle remember what they are suppose to do and makes your work more even.
