Last day of February...

When the best plans go haywire.  Realised yesterday that a few books need to go back to the library and the one book has to go back before Monday. It is a book which I want to finish reading, so I am reading it and not a lot happened after that.Traced the center for the red and white quilt.
The light was very good in the afternoon and the center was tacked down, after the tracing was done. It can now move forward,  have decided to do a combination of applique and embroidery.
It is Love Entwined by Esther Aliu,  from Australia.  She drafted the pattern from a grainy photograph of this 1790 Marriage Coverlet and this colour choices in the picture is what is believe to be a close match to the original quilt.

Rainy Saturday.

Yesterday was a day of sunshine and blue skies. We went for a walk outside early afterafternoon and it was warmer than the walk later in the day.  It was chilly and invigorating late yesterday afternoon and the walks was great. The snow started to melt and it always amaze me when this happens even though it is still cold. We woke up to rain and the chorus of the birdsong,  spring is coming soon. Nature knows best.
This week's charm row is done and it has a few yellows in it.
The whole cloth quilt on the frame is getting more quilting now. My sewing machine is at the Sewing Doc to be fixed for at least three weeks.  Unexpected and it has put a wrench in the process of projects that I am working on.  So the universe has decided that other projects need to be work on instead.
These trees will be covered in green leaves soon.
Working on the workbox today.

A change of scenery...

Yesterday was a day of a socially  distancing visit with Diane. She needed help with her borders and binding on her queen size quilt top. Here you can see her monochromatic top. She created the new pattern after a few strips did a happy dance and ended up in a different sequence to the original pattern.
The back of the top.
The top with the borders over the bed. We wore our masks and the windows was open.  The trees was filled with robins.
The stream meanders behind these trees, the snow is melting fast.
Diane has been working on her Halloween Quaker,  with these lockdowns she has finished a lot of her projects.

Switching gears...

Life throws us speedbumps and we have to make a choice to switch gears. It is a gift of time to do what we need to now. So when my sewing machine decided after almost 21 years it needed new parts and will have to go away for three weeks, it needed to do that.
This test quilted fabric will be turned into an applique roll. It will get a few pieces added to it and applique projects on the go will be carted inside its protective cover.
The stitching has been unpicked and a different colour added for the center of the petals.
This week's charm row is chugging along.

Tension is off...

The day started well, got the chores done. Then it was time to sit down and quilt the Sugaridoo QAL quilt.  On top it looked fine and at first everything seemed fine. Then it was not, turned the top over and the bottom had little loops here and there, not good. The top tension was off. Tried to correct it, changed the thread. Put in a new bobbin. Replaced the needle, checked the bobbin case. The freemotion with the tension wrong at the top and right at the bottom of these two pieces, the top on front sides..This is the back of the two samples. Will spend some more time today to see if I can fix it, otherwise it will have to go for a service and a check up with ge sewing doc. It will go to the service technician to be fixed.
The hexie mystery got some more green around the flower cream section.
This week's week's charm row is almost done.
Unpicked the center of the red flowers, one petal has one extra stitch in the center, will unpick the piece to redo the red flower in that area.

Tuesday is a good one for hibernating.

The machine quilting on this will carry on today. We woke up to snow, freezing rain, snow and rain. Staying indoors is a wise decision, as it is very icy outdoors.
Made a start on this week's charm row. Spent more time stitching and playing with colours for the Linen and Treads SAL.
Happy with the leaves and center,  the bright red flower may get unpicked. Some more six and a half inch squares got cut and packed away for the moment
The view of the snow out the window on the roof.

Snowy start to week...

Another snowing start to the week, we were expecting 3cm of snow,  we got way more!
February SAL has been started.  The blue inner border is done.
This purple floss from the box of floss will be used for the dashes in this blue border.
The colours just jumped out at me.
The heartsease is stitched in bright colours.
The windows are applique on this house. This weeks charm row.

Alterations done!

After running a few errands in the morning and getting things we could not do curbside pick up. These were things that physically testing a product to make sure it is the right fit,  one could not order online. Most of the afternoon was spent unpicking and replacing a navy zipper on a navy cardigan.  It is now done and returned to our neighbours daughter.
This week's charm row got finished.
Pulled some floss for February SAL, these guys will be used in the border. No more black, instead a blue will be used for the next square and green for the dashes in said square. The thimble holder has a heartsea/pansy on the outside lid, with yellow.
Will start this today.
Prepped the windows for this house, it will be applique in place.
The workbox is from this book, here is the  ISBN number for the book.
