Playing with new ideas.
Just recently I read a blog where this concept was applied to a square, it made me think. What about using the same idea on a rectangle? Had no notion if it would actually work. It worked! The possiblities are endless, from placemats to zipper bags to selfbinding quilts.
It is really very simple, draw a square on each corner, draw a 45 degree angle on all four corners the same size.
For the sample it was two inches.
Next cut those corners neatly on the drawn lines.
Next make four flange strips folded in half lengthwise and ironed flat.
Attach the prepared one inch flange to the right sides on all four sides.
Finger press towards the main body of the rectangle.
Trim the extra pieces without trimming the 45 degree angles on the main body of fabric.
Like this one, after that sew the corners turn inside out and the frame is done.
Now add what you want to it, just pop a quilted piece into the frame and secure in place with stitching through all the layers in the ditch on the flange!
