Lilac and purple.

A bit of raw edge appliqué happened this week, after a spot of cleaning up the mess in my sewing room.

A bag filled with threads and fabric bits and pieces.

A blue Iris on our walks.

The pattern that inspired the raw edge appliqué.

Along the stream, these flowers bloomed.

A heron fishing in the stream. We are dealing with very hot and humid conditions. Summer has arrived!

The month of May.

Tulips bloom in May, capturing these beautiful flowers on my walk recently. We have been busy in the garden, all the plants in pots that needed to be repotted are done. The vegetable raised beds have been dug over, extra soil, manure and peat added.  Seeds have been planted, small plants and even trees. Spring is a busy season, maintenance needs doing around the house and garden.

Our new kitty enjoys cuddling and he has decided the spare room is his!

The first tree is stitched, not perfect but done, only three more to go.

The baby quilt for my brother and his wife who have become first time grandparents to a baby girl.

They requested Beatrix Potter, this panel had some of it on the fabric.

Orange in May.

Orange is colour for RSC2026, a few of the projects on the list have orange in it. Those will be worked on everyday to make a few more blocks. It has been very busy since last year around this time, so we are catching up on a long list of things to do. We are doing spring cleaning, both inside and outside.

 {Blogger continue to glitch and not allow any photos to be uploaded to the blog posts, this is an ongoing problem.}

 Stitching has started again.

Mystery quilt.

The William Morris mystery quilt kits are all done. Everything is precut and in kits, with 13 Blocks plus the borders and binding for the quilt. This quilt was designed by myself and my husband last year, after receiving a request for it. The fabric collection arrived in March of this year and the cutting of the fabric, counting, sorting and kitting up of 11 queen size quilt kits happened since then. They are almost ready to be sent out to everyone who signed up for the mystery quilt project. This has been an epic project, videos will be added and instructions as well. Kits available from the Sewing Cafe.ca

Binding and hexies.

Life has been busy with so much. Changes that are happening as we grow older, family growing as more great nephews and nieces are born. This year is no exception, a request for a baby a quilt came and that one is being worked on slowly. Also worked on some hexies, using mini charm packs which I got when we went out west a number of years ago.

Spring or winter.

The weather is still doing what it is doing. Freezing rain and now rain which hopefully is melting some more snow and ice. We are more than ready for Spring to arrive with warmer weather. Last year I received this Peter Rabbit panel and a fat quarter bundle. Looked at the both for a few months and finally decided to quilt the panel. Baby quilts always makes me think of spring, lambs and green grass.

Slow progress.

Life goes forward one step at a time. Progress it is, even in small steps. We had almost no more snow on our grass, when we thought spring was here? What a crazy day, so much snow that it required a snowblower to clear the snow. It continued to snow and turned to rain.
A smock dress that I was working on. Luckily this one only needs finishing later this year.
Some more stiching happen as well.

We all have to take a break sometimes…

Life has a way of slowing us down and making us stop sometimes. My shoulder and snow shovelling did just that. The choice was to listen to my body or not? It made sense to just go with the flow and listen. Rest, rest and more rest. We spent time relaxing and also visiting Bounce, above. Projects on the list is ones that are not urgent and had been started a while back, they will wait until the shoulder is healed and back to normal working order. Spring is arriving, we have snow melting and the trees are showing signs of buds appearing along the branches. In some places we can see large patches of grass with no snow on it. We are curretly enjoying double digits above freezing. This past winter definitely took its toll and we are happy to say hello to spring.

Groundhog says an early spring!

I have been smocking and it made me look in a box that has not been looked at for a while. Found these two patterns and decided to pull them out. Also sorted through some scraps and my stash of fabrics. A collection of colours has been started for making these two quilts. The patterns use black fabrics?
The Sewing Cafe have a beautiful collection of black prints, they have a large collection of white prints with colours too. Which is what I am leaning towards more than the black.
Picked up the Fox and Rabbit mystery stitch along project which stalled around August of last year.
Also pulled out the yellow and blue blocks, have cut a lot of blocks with the rest of the fabrics to make more blocks to create a quilt.

A request for a kitty quilt.

A nephew and his wife adopted a kitten recently, a request came for a welcome to the family quilt.
This kitty is white and fluffy, so something with pink and some colours to make sure she will be seen on said quilt.
Lupine and Laughter Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt is finished, with binding on. This quilt will be gifted in due course, scraps no more! Perfect distraction from the very cold weather and all the snow. We have had a lot of snow.

The top is done.

With the blast of cold weather and winter going down a rabbit hole and hibernating is exactly what happened. Work continued and the blocks got sewn together in rows. borders was added and a victory lap was added to keep all the seams from flip flopping when quilting starts.
Baby quilts created with panels happens and one was finished with scraps of binding. The binding box with leftovers was pulled and a few pieces got sorted, added to projects that need binding. Some have starts others are still needing more work. The piles of projects got sorted and packed away for now, important for the space to be cleared. For months it was waiting and that finally happened.
A kitty quilt was requested, that is awaiting some quilting. More snow fell and we continue to clear snow as soon as we can. Life continues with birthdays and celebrations, cake is baked by request for the person who is celebrating a milestone. This one requested a Victoria Sponge, by Mary Berry.

Mystery continues into a top.

We got a big winter storm, with lots of snow. Yesterday was a cleaning up, then going out a few hours later and cleaning up more snow. Late last night the plow came past, our neigbour had offered earlier in the day to use his snowblower to cleanup after the plow and we accepted his offer. In return we baked some dessert and shared it with him and his family. Today will be a relaxing day and recovering from all the shovelling of the snow.
Jaunary RSC26 colour is blue. Last year at Quilt Canada, I bought a book and decided that this is a project to add to my list. All those bits of embroidery floss and threads will be used in this. The book use wool? Instead of wool, flannel will be used.
Also created a piece of fabric to do the embroidery on, it is a soft open woven cotton with flannel as the filling to the sandwich which was quilted with a large stipple.
Quilted a baby panel, it was just to play and practice. It needed more quilting, so it got another layer of a smaller stipple allover the panel again.
The mystery quilt play and layout was done, it is now ready to be sewn into a top.
