Appliqué book bag.

This is a simple bag, to create it is a process of babysteps and the going is definitely slow going.
Next binding was sewn on the four bag panels, this is commercial binding tape which was in my collection of sewing supplies.
It will be used to cover the raw edges after the panels (the outside panels of the bag and the inside compartments that make up the pages of the "book") is attached to the zippers.
The outside panel is attached to the outside zipper, binding handstitched first. Then the compartment or page is attached to the next zipper in the band. As shown by the purple clip.
The handle has been attached to the zipper band as well.
The same process is applied to attach each page.
Except for the two inside pages that had a gap at the top.
This is not sewn into a band or the zipper tape just under the band which has the handle attached on the outside.
This shows that opening above, below shows it sewn in place.
After the binding is sewn in place, it is stitched by hand and secured.
The finished bag. It had no pattern, made it up as I went along to accomodate all possibilities that may or may not arise in the future. Now the applique blocks will be worked on and stored flat, while they are worked on and when they are finished. Keeping them clean and crease free until they can be assembled into a quilt.

Working on some serendipity pieces.

These pieces are for me. All of these fabrics was not going in the direction that was intended originally, which is totally fine. Sitting on a shelf, they do not spark joy. While making something which we can enjoy, do.
This project folder with zipper pouch is a first, using clear vinyl.
Next up is the applique roll with a difference. This is a cardboard tube, inside of this supplies like thread, thimble and scissors can be stored while not in use.
It will be used to keep longer pieces of border applique neatly and easier to keep together.
Also added a zipper pocket in the top.
Placed a batting or felt liner on the inside to keep the pieces from moving around, similar to a design wall.
Next up is a bag for applique blocks. The side panels have zipper pockets as well on the inside.
The applique book bag main body is growing with side panels, pockets made from fabric and soft mesh.
The pockets with the mesh has a flannel lining, to help keep things from moving about too much.
Also just a spot to slide blocks under to keep them in the book bag.
The next step is sew the binding on all the sides, the two outside bag panels and the two inside bag panels. This needs to happened before sewing the zipper band in place.
Project bags for stitching and applique to work on the go. The snow is still coming down, it has been one very snowy week so far...Perfect for handstitching and staying indoors until the snow tapers off and we need to go and shovel some more.

Stars.

The RSC23 blue blocks are done for January. These are the two star block patterns in the quilt. Also did some triangle squares for the borders.
Blue blocks for Finding the way, these ones needs to have the dog ears trimmed before the end of the month.
Blue borders for the applique quilt, Ladies of the Sea. Applique will be started next month. Besides these blocks, the applique book bag is still a work in progress. Will hopefully get that finished before moving on to the next colour for February.

Snow in daylight…

This is what it looked like once it became daylight...
The two pieces quilted, this will be the front and back of the applique book. Playing with ideas still, as this is a bag without a pattern.
The two quilted panels now have zipper pockets on the inside.
Added the two zippers for the side pockets. The applique book will have three pages so to speak.

Snowy start.

It started in the morning and by dinner time it was a lot of snow. After dinner we all went outside and shovelled, used the snow blower and cleared as much as we could. We helped neighbours and it was still coming down. This morning when we woke up, it looked like this. The snow plow had not been and everyone is outside clearing snow again, after the plow comes past we will clear up again.
Leaders and enders that was finished. They are now in the box with the same sized squares.
The second set of border triangle squares got finished for Ladies of the Sea.
The applique blocks have not started yet, the corners have four Mariner's Compass blocks which are paper pieced as well. The rest of the quilt is applique with embroidery.
The applique block bag is coming along slowly. Made the zipper band and prepped the outsides for quilting. Baby steps, a little bit everyday is making this happen.
Another applique quilt has triangle squares as borders for the blocks, these are red and white. Pulled the pattern out and sorted all the pieces, making sure that the pieces that was cut before was the required pieces according to the pattern. They are now packed away until the colour red is called.
More quilting continued on the Jeopardy quilting the other night. This one is slowly chugging along. Birthdays and wedding anniversary all happening this week.
