Friday?

This week flew by, before we knew it Friday arrived.  The yellow daffodils and pink tulips are in full bloom. Yesterday was a rainy day, today is blustery and cold. Had to do the grocery shopping this morning and the car did not want to start. Kind neighbour helped to get it going. This is the second time this week, so we knew the battery needed replacing.  The car is now back to normal  again.
Sewed all the quarter square triangles and some more. Trimmed them all to the three inch square size, then counted them. Only needed two hundred and eight for the pattern, have two thirty three? Scraps no more.RSC21  colour for the month of May is red, went through the scraps and found these scraps so far. There is another box with some more reds which I need to go through as well.

April rains.

Our sugar plum is covered in blooms. The grass is green and our April showers arrived, later than expected but they came. A rainy week expected until the first week of May.
The different size pieces are being sewn into strips. These long strips will be sew together to create a larger piece of fabric. No scrap will be left behind.
These blocks are all sewn together as well. Next they need to be trimmed to three inches square.
Sweet peas are breaking through the soil. Also planted the nasturstium seeds, planting these plants as companion plants next to the veggies will keep the pests at bay. Enjoying the gardening.

More of the same.

Some gardening yesterday. Overwintered the sweet peppers indoors, they spent some time in their pots outdoors. Transplanted them from the pots into the veggie garden.  Last night we had a thunderstorm and lots of rain. The lemon trees which was grown from seeds is now potted into slightly bigger pots. They will be kept in pots, just moved to bigger pots until they are about 48 inches tall. They will be bosai to stay small.
Prepped these pieces for sewing, did get to sew them late in the day. Had a lovely walk along the stream and the forest.

A busy one.

The tulips are opening, with so many petals, the center was not visible. It was cloudy when I took the photos.  Sunshine is great because they open up and one can see the center.
Looked in the scraps and found some more blues. Used the AccuQuilt to cut these triangles. Have enough now to make the remainder of the quarter square triangles.  It was a busy day with errands to run, also manage to go for a walk in nature. Saw teenagers fishing in the stream. Normally it is the grandpa's doing outdoor activities like fishing.
More bulbs are flowering.

A little progress.

Daffodils are flowering. Relaxed this weekend mostly.
Some more hand quilting got done on the whole cloth quilt on the frame.
Made some more quarter triangle squares.  Need two hundred and eight, have a hundred and ten from the scraps so far. So will be looking at what other scraps in blue is in my stash.
The bulbs are flowering.
Tulips are about to flower too.

Eye candy.

Yesterday was a day of spending time in nature, walking listening to the birds and watching the fish in the stream. The babies, the teens and the adults. One even jumped out of the water to say "hi". The water was crystal clear and the pebbles could be seen from above. Spending that time just seeing the trees put on their spring coats, the leaves a soft beautiful Green. It reset the calm and relax button we all have, it works every time. We are blessed to live on this planet, earth.
Diane made this quilt and she asked Linda and Anna at The Sewing Cafe to longarm quilt it for her, they did an amazing job. It is a large quilt Queen/King? With an all over swirl design.
The buttercream colour really shows the design on the black border and adds more dimension to the overall design. She choose a monochromatic palette for the top. Her two stitched pieces, both Quakers arrived back from the framers.
The Halloween Quaker.
The Christmas Quaker.

Blue...

The stack is now fifty five blocks, that is half of what is called for in the pattern.  Very happy with this progress.
Doing the RSC21 is an amazing way to make this quilt.
A walk in nature and some gardening will be on the list for today. A little bit of time with needle and thread too.

Happy Friday!

The sun is out shining, it is Friday and the snow is gone! The weather is warming up today and that is a good reason to smile. Trimmed the triangle squares  and played a bit with the blocks. Need to make a lot more of the quarter square triangles. The blocks finish almost at sixteen inches.
All the triangle squares trimmed ready for the block assembly.
Cut another 44 blocks from the leftovers in the shoe box, it is amazing how much fabric was in the box.
The quilt will have four blocks with this large pinwheel colour combination.
Stacks sewn ready for sewing together.
This is the centre block, will have only one with this combination,  the remainder will be the block at the top of this post. Who would have thought the fabric could be stretched out to create this quilt top from leftovers...

Blues and snow.

On cold days we all enjoy a warm cup of coffee or tea. Yesterday we woke up to snow, most of it melted during the course of the day.
Spent a few hours going through the scraps to sew and cut the squares to make the triangle squares with the fabrics. Needed 88 squares, just had enough of the three and a half inch pieces. Next these blocks will be trimmed to tidy them up and cut to three inch squares.
This block is quilted, doing lap quilting without a hoop.
It is just in the ditch quilting, nothing fancy.

April snow?

Before the snow arrived, one of the yellow daffodils opened. It followed me indoors, many more bulbs were about to open, so now we will wait and see what happens to them.
The last three large pinwheel blocks are made from the crumbs that was leftover, to create these blocks. Have four light blocks, eight aqua floral and blue grape blocks.  The center will be the grape and aqua swirl block. Trimmed all the smaller blocks too, have made 66 in total so far. Need 208 in total.
Today the medium size triangle squares will be started, before making the remaining quarter triangle squares.
Snow and grey skies. The sun is supposed to be out today and by Friday we are expecting 20C.

Battening down the hatches...

Made this quilt in 1999 from the pattern that appeared in Quiltmaker magazine the pattern was called Appalachian Trail.  Used scraps of dress fabrics and calico for the backgrounds.  It has flowers and leaves appliqued on the drunkards path blocks. Dresden scallops for the border fabrics.  This quilt was hand  quilted and given to a family member. Somewhere I do have a photo of the finished quilt, just could not find that one. This is a picture of a hardcopy of a photo I have of quilts made.
These blocks are trimmed to three and ten and a half inch blocks.More blocks sewn, they have not been trimmed. Have to make three more of the large pinwheel blocks. The quarter square blocks need another lot, so will count how many more is required. We had -5C over night, so yesterday afternoon all the plants that needed to be covered up got their winter jackets on. Snow expected today and overnight into tomorrow.

A new week.

The reset button has been hit. More lockdown measures, just on Friday last week was definitely not great. So we had to adjust and move forward again.
This is what the blocks for the quiit looks like in the pattern, they are large blocks.
Sewed some of the blocks with the scraps triangles which was in the leftovers. Another stack to go. They will all be trimmed to a smaller size, so it does not matter that they are all different sizes currently.
The large center pinwheel of the blocks, the combinations so far.
Just played a bit to see what a potential block would look like.
Will carry on working on these blocks, later in the day we will cover all the plants that need protection against the snow we are expecting to get over the next few days. A sunny start to the day with a touch of frost.
