A finish and some inspiration.

The pumpkin house stitching continues with the flowers.
Applique on this block has two flowers finished with two to do still.
Diane is busy with granny squares, this yarn makes the pattern in the different colours using one ball of self stripe yarn. She is playing with the different colours for three blankets.
RSC24 purple triangle squares have been sewn and ironed, they still need trimming.
Made a start on the hand quilting on this basted bargello.
Large baby quilt is finished, washed and it is ready to be popped into the mail to go to my great nephew who was born late December last year.
Today was sunny and warm and we got out for a nice walk, also walked my friends little man.

Sailing and the ocean waves.

Over the course of the past week, the feed dogs on my sewing machine which is almost twenty four years old was dropped and freemotion quilting happened on the large baby quilt.
Growing up we use to see the Southern right whales off the coast of South Africa, they are amazing mamals and it was always a surprise when they appeared where we would least expect them to do so. We once sat on the old harbour wall in Hermanus eating fish and chips and they came to greet us, they were a few meters away and we could almost touch them!
This quilt needs to be trimmed and the binding and label added to the back, will get to that this coming week.
Today will be relaxing and continue to work on my next applique block. We woke up to snow flakes drifting down from grey skies. Some hand quilting may happen later on my Bonnie Hunter quilt which is in the hoop at the moment, perfect weather for it.

Slow progress.

Finished this block, worked on it on and off during other things that kept me busy this past week.
Tried this method for the first time, the freezer paper came out without any hassle. Glad I did it this way.
Found this little case the other day, it is used for cosmetics usually. It is perfect for holding threads, needles, thimble and scissors.
Carried on machine quilting the baby large quilt, concentrated on all the navy quilting, will move on to the cream and white quilting next. Raining hard here and it has been raining all night long.

Working on a few projects.

The large/twin baby quilt has been basted.
Next the quilting can begin. It will be done by machine.
Will be doing the applique method with the removal of the freezer paper from the back, once the pieces have been sewn in place. First time that I will try it this way.
Doing the blocks in the order that works, when inspiration with colours and fabrics meet in harmony.

Tidy corners.

The corners on the binding needs to be stitched by hand, after sewing the binding on by machine. Will get this done sometime today.
Also need to add a label, which is not made yet.
Prepped some blocks and some applique can now be started for slow stitching for March.
These will be starched over the freezer paper, with all those points.
Afternoon Delight was a Block of the Month with The Quilts Show.com a few years back.

Purple.

The colour for March is purple. Love Entwined has no purple in it, which then led me down a garden path and some other starts. Sounds like gardening, except really it is applique and quilting.
This one fell of the cart last year or was it the year before. I digress, it has purple in it. Sorted the piles of strips and the blocks.
Have made 35 stars of the one variety and 12 of the other star blocks, before this one came to a sudden stop.
Pulled the squares from the box for Finding the way, these were made last year and the ones at the top of the post the ones which was sorted by colour earlier this year.
At Christmas time this layer cake was a gift, it got added to the box with Afternoon Delight.
It was time to audition some purple fabrics, playtime!
Which one, which one? In the end this combination worked. This is the fun part, needleturn for these ones.
While the box is open, a few more blocks will get fabrics pulled and sorted for a few starts on other colour months. Doing little bits each month, makes the process so much more relaxing. Joining everyone over at So Scrappy for RSC24. Why not pop in and come for a visit...

Darning is a rare thing, this happened on 29th of February 2024! Leaping Day.

Three pairs of jeans and two pairs of jean shorts needed mending, some parts turned out to be like darning socks by building up parts before this could be mended and fixed. Not something I am fond off, but... it needed to be done. So focus and some time knuckling down and slowly working on each pair until it was done.
Binding got made for the large baby quilt, more of a twin than anything else.
It is the same fabrics just in reverse order for the smaller baby quilt.
The smaller of the two quilts got trimmed and is ready for the binding to be sewn on.
