Butterflies and wedding quilts.

One wedding quilt is now with the happy couple, that all happened this past weekend. It was one very busy weekend and sunday was our rest and recovery day. Today was housework and wash the floors. Perfect opportunity to pin baste the next wedding quilt on the kitchen floor.
Walked to fetch the mail and then check on the lavender on the side of the house. Two little butterflies was playing tag in the lavender. With the extreme the heatwaves the lavender needs the flowers trimmed in order for the plants to manage in the heat. So many of the flowers will be removed but not all, as the bees and butteflies need flowers too. A few years back these bushes had to be trimmed back for the exact same reason.
Baked South African custard tart and dessert requested by the groom to be.

    1. The pattern is a free mystery quilt 2025 from Cape of Good Hope Quilters Guild. I checked it is still free. https://www.goodhopequiltersguild.org.za

  3. The wedding quilt is beautiful! I've tried growing lavender many times. I thought it was doing well at our new house but the frigid weather we had last winter killed it.

    1. The lavender that grows at -39C is the English lavender, either Munstead or Hidcote. The trick is to only trim the flowers on the stalks off before the winter and then in the spring one can trim the leave and stems off by about a third. They want dry roots, so no standing water for these plants.

  4. What a beauty of a quilt that is! I have not had luck growing lavender here but I'd love to. Mosquitoes don't like it I've read so would love to have it around.
