A new project…

At Quilt Canada it was like being a kid in a candy shop, Sweets from Heaven. As I mentioned before for those of us who love applique it was wonderful. Discovered this pattern, met the designer. Something about this one just grabbed my attention.
The attention to detail was amazing and the pattern was almost a half a ream of paper. The pattern include the quilting designs as well!
The water and sky is very quilted in the same design or so it looked at first glance, but it was different upon closer inspection.
As for all the fabrics? I knew that I needed the background, the brick wall, water and bridge plus the sky. The rest I knew my stash would cover it. Where to find what I needed, at the show I could not find what was what would work for this pattern. The Sewing Cafe a few months got in some fabrics which I knew would be a perfect match, so a day after the show a bit more shopping happened.
From my stash, got some Heat and bond as well for the raw edge applique as most of the fabrics are not batiks. Will draw all the quilting designs on the piece before quilting it. It looks labour intensive, it is actually simple. The scale of it is what is the thing which would be more of a challenge.
It was one of those shows where it was not so much about shopping (came home with a few bits and pieces), as it was about seeing the quilts. Took lots of photos which I will share soon.

  1. One of the complaints I heard when I volunteered at Quilts Canada some years ago, was " Where are the quilts?" I had to agree that the judges do not seem to value piecing as much as applique.

  2. love that quilt it looks really pretty but so much applique! Quilting at the shows has changed a lot in recent years a lot more modern then old fashioned designed. That last photo you show - I bought that pattern years and years ago and never used it - one day I need to go through the box and see what is there
