Three years ago, this blog was born. It is named after a little bird, a Chickadee! They are happy and very friendly. If you put sunflower seeds on your hand, it will not take them long to discover you, food and making sure the food telegraph is sent out to all their friends and neighbours. They share without holding back. So with this in mind, I want to pay it forward with my favourite book company for inspiration: QUILTmania!
I will be giving away a copy of Creating Heirlooms, One Stitch at a Time by Carolyn Konig. Please leave a comment about your favourite pattern of all time and why it has such a high honor on your best dressed list, no pun intended.
We cannot make all the patterns in every book out there. Some are just for eye-candy, others for inspiration. The others one open and escape into a world of make believe. The one's you drool over the beauty of the artwork and the amazing creative works, sigh. Then one wish one could do all of the above, alas, we would need more than one lifetime. Those are the ones becoming coffee table books, to be opened and read with some good chocolate, they allow us to indulge in the serendipities of life.
Finding the Way, is one of the patterns in the book. Here is the progress so far. Changed the center, as I only had the one pink fabric and the pattern called for two pinks. This is a wedding gift for my brother who is getting married over the summer.
The cream fabric all prepared for sewing.
A rainbow of coloured squares. They will all become triangle squares, when all is said and done.
Swe-Swe Fabric from South Africa.
PS: The winner will be drawn on the 1st of March 2018!
My favourite quilt pattern, so far, is Fancy Fox by Elizabeth Hartman. It is quick, easy, and delightful to see. I made the whole quilt at quilt retreat, three weeks before my wonderful grandson was born.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite , for now at least, is Sue Garman's 'Afternoon Delight'! Love all the applique and little pieces! Sue was a wonderful designer! I had the opportunity to see the exhibit of her work at Houston last year!
ReplyDeleteLove your fabrics for Finding the Way. Would love to win this book. Came over from Karen's Quilts etc blog. ckrutjo at g mail dot com
ReplyDeleteMy favorite at the moment? I have two. The first is love entwined by Esther Aliu and the second is Roseville album by Kim McLean. Love those applique quilts! Congrats on three years of blogging. You provide lots of inspiration for us all.
ReplyDeleteI have so many favourites but must name my first Dear Jane as my all time favourite since I actually made it and have it layered and ready to quilt.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite quilt for sure has to be Omas Blues by Esther Aliu. This confirmed my love of applique. Lots of fiddling with oh so many different shades of blue to make a quilt reminiscent of beautiful blue and white china.
ReplyDeleteA close second would be La Passacaglia quilt pattern.
Congratulations on having the staying power for three whole years of blogging
I'm not sure that I have a favorite pattern ; I like too many of them! This did remind me, though, of one winter when we had a tremendous amount of ice and snow and the birds had gotten fairly tame, and I was able to feed suet to a chickadee out of my hand. It was magical :)
ReplyDeleteI'm new to quilting. Just over 2 years and I've been inspired by so many patterns. I just recently made a bargello quilt which I thought would be a challenge to make but am now addicted to making. I am also inspired by Esther Alui's Diamond Hill pattern. The applique is stunning. Totally addicted to this wonderful new hobby.

ReplyDeleteThis is so hard to limit myself to just one favorite pattern. I admire all the ones the others have mentioned, and even have plans for them. Today, though, my favourite is Jacqueline DeJonge's Imagine. I love the variety of stars and the concentic circles of flying geese. Every Sunday, though, I breathlessly await the next installment of Katherine Kerr's block of the week Aves.
ReplyDeleteGracias por la oportunidad .
ReplyDeleteMi favorito? Sampler Floral de Sally y Dear Jane
Saludos
Oh my gosh, there are sew many that I love....................... Can I just say anything by Elizabeth Hartman?????????
ReplyDeleteI have quite a few favorites but the one I love the best is Grandma's Last Quilt pattern. It was Blanche Burkett White's last quilt she made. Her Granddaughter,Ladonna Lechner, shared the quilt with Traditional Quiltworks magazine who published the book Grandma's Last Quilt with all the patterns.I actually spoke to the Granddaughter and thanked her for sharing her Grandmother's beautiful quilt and how much I enjoyed making the quilt. I love to applique by hand and do hand piecing and quilting. Would love to add this book to my collection. Thank you for doing this
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites is Star Crazy by Sue Garman. Simple, Sweet, Stars.
ReplyDeleteOf course I am not at home to check the title but think it's called Star Garden. Applique stars on light blue--been working on it for a long time.
ReplyDeleteHi Maggie are they all fabrics from Africa, reason I asked is there colour is so dense such deep colours. They look so glorious in those piles???? Congratulations on been 3 Smile. Hugs Glenda
ReplyDeleteFlorence Petro Calico Garden Was my favourite quilt to make, when I first started quilting I saw it in a book and thought I just want to be good enough to make that quilt and I have and it is still my favourite quilt!!!! Please don't put me in the draw Maggie will cost a fortune to post LOL
ReplyDeleteTough question--it's so hard to pick just one favorite pattern. I think my choice would be the Blooming Nine-Patch. I love quilts that are easy to piece but have great impact.
ReplyDeleteI am fond of blooming 9 patch but I really love the Herfordshire one. But maybe it is just the name as it is near my birth place.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time visiting your blog. I am addicted to applique. I am enthralled by app quilts by William Morris, Deborah Kemball, and Erla Gudrun. I am working on a circle quilt; circles appliqued to squares. About ready to start quilting. Joyce Barham, USA in Arkansas. barhamjoyce@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI would be hard put to name a favourite all time quilt design - I love them all! I do tend to like those that have a little more work in them....As you say another lifetime is needed but then I would discover more quilts and then I would need another lifetime! Congratulations on your blogaversary...no need to add me to the draw as I am international. Now following you to see what else you get up to :-)
