Prehistoric dinosaurs?
The dinosaur quilt is quilted. The size before washing and quilting was 70 by 50 inches. After machine quilting it is now 68 by 49 inches. This one will be washed after the binding has been sewn onto the top.
Used four different colours thread to quilt this one. Three greens and one blue thread for the sky.
Some blocks got more dense quilting than others.
The back of the quilt.
The front of the quilt.
The borders of the quilt.
The binding needed to be the same green as the final border fabric. Needed to get some more fabric, so a trip to The Hobby Horse Quilt Shoppe was required.
Magic binding made.
Binding in the process, sewn onto the back first.
The view of the farm fields and the blue sky with the wispy clouds.

Dinosaur quilt.
The green border got freemotion quilted. It is the first part that gets quilted .
Next up the quilting in the ditch happened to block the next elements. Above is the back and below is the front so far.
Some stitching continued on this piece. The rope got stitched in the main piece and the rope in the borded got started as well.
Will switch things up a bit and make a start on the layout and machine applique for the birthday quilt for Lara. The backgroud looks grey, it is much more purple (Orchid) Kona colour.
On our walk early evening we saw this peonie opening up. It was huge.

Busy Month of May.
On all our walks the most beautiful iris plants are in full bloom, a delight for the eye! The lily of the valley has now spread far and wide too that we walk past on in the forest and is now popping up in another part of the forest across the road. The sent is gentle and when a breeze is blowing one catch a wiff of the perfume.
Binding is done on this quilt. So many things has happened unexpectedly this month, our minds and bodies are still spinning from it all. It still seems so surreal, especially the loss of our kitty, we still expect to see her with us. Only to discover she is not there, where we hoped to find her. It is a new normal which we just cannot get used to. Hard to believe.
Pulled the blue blocks for Finding the way, boy it has a lot of blues!
Blue is the RSC24 colour for June, these got sewn and prepped to be cut.
The cutting and finger pressing happened while Kate and I chatted on zoom on wednesday afternoon. Kate was working on a new pair of socks. She has finished four pairs of adult socks already this year, amazing result. (check them out on www.artsandsocks.blogspot.com)
The dinosaur quilt is next up. It has been layered and basted ready for machine quilting.
June is here, half of this year has flown by in a blink of an eye!

Baby socks.
Enjoying all the beautiful flowers that surround us. Nature is just filled with so much inspiration.
Kate kindly made a pair of baby socks for my great nephew, it arrived in the mail today. It is wool, so it will stay in the ziplock bag. Wool and me are not friends, so I will admire it from the outside of the bag. It will be going to Levi very soon. These baby socks are amazing. Also in the parcel was this funky fabric, a hat for hubby. It is truly Canadian, with geese and they are super cute with the flippers and swimming goggles! The dinosaur quilt has a start will be working on it a bit again today. Trying to get the machine quilting done before the heat of summer starts. Working on smaller pieces with applique and embroidery is a lot easier in the summer.

Children’s quilts.
Making kids quilts are always fun, because all the rules gets tossed aside and we can get as creative as we want to, or just keep it as simple. With the arrival of all the great nephews and nieces, a new generation has commenced and a new chapter.
First dinosaur quilt for the eldest of all the new little ones.
Next up for the youngest one a Deer.
An otter family and a pond. Peter Rabbit quilt was unfortunately lost by the mail, this will be the replacement quilt.
More unicorns and lots of them, they seem to be very popular. Playing with panels, is a wonderful way to create picture quilts for kids.

Unicorns and fairy tales.
This panel is filled with lots of colours, so quilting it is requiring some creative solutions. I had a roll of sulky variegated thread which has been used in the high colour changing areas at the bottom of the panel.
The picture shows some vines, wisteria maybe that is hanging down from the arch? Sometimes it helps to start with an element to highlight and go from there.
The mane or hair has all these swirls and curls, so those were followed and highlighted as well.
The straight lines on the dress and the crystal clusters was quilted in straight lines too.
The quilting is fairly dense, before basting and quilting the top measured 55 x 65 inches.
After the quilting, before washing it is now 53 x 64 inches. Next up is the binding, it is cut out and needs to made and added to the quilt. Will be doing that with the rainy weather today, it has been raining here yesterday as well.

A pieced unicorn quilt top. This is for another little Great Niece, unicorns is very popular. Nine great nephews and nieces for now.
