A new week.

A new week, the sun is shining today. Planted the last of the vegetables seeds on Saturday past. Now it is about water and regular basic maintenance.  We went for long walks and saw our first bunny yesterday. The orange Orioles are here as well, so the hummingbird feeder has gone up as well.
Started the next charm row.
Made some more leaves petals for these flowers. Will continue to work on them this week.

Sunday Stitching.

The charm rows have been started back up again, this is the first one finished since my frozen shoulder stopped me working on them in March.
Working on a pink flower for Home Sweet Home work box.
This bit is also finished.
The red and white quilt now has all eight polka dot flowers sewn in place. Yesterday was spent planting the last of the vegetables seeds. It looked like rain, a few drops came down and we all came indoors. Watched some tv while doing the applique, then it  was outside again, sweeping up the grass cuttings on the patio and path. Realised dinner time and quickly made the meal. After dinner with the beautiful weather it was time to water the garden. Gardening has taken off and the garden Centers are busy.
Will work on these small leaf flowers next.
Surprise bulbs opening up.

Red nine patch blocks.

The red and white quilt got some more pieces this week.
Made these pieces, using a method I came up with years ago.
Added the Centers as well, this make adding it to the large center quicker and easier.
One down, seven to go.
This is what it will look like.
Nine patch blocks in red.
The charm row is almost done for the week.
Sweet peas from seed. Most are the tall ones, the ones in the front are the miniature ones. These will be planted into the Sweet pea  boxes soon.

Polka dot Friday.

The first time I  made these flowers was in 2015. Made them with muslin on the bias here.
Decided to make it this time with a light weight interfacing. Traced the outlines on the dull side.
Then sewed on the traced lines by machine.
Followed this with cutting the shapes with pinking shears.
This makes turning them inside out much easier, retaining their shape.
Snipping up to the stitch line inbetween each petal of the blossom.
This is what they looked like.
The backs. Tried one which was cut  differently from the mother's. A simple slit in the interfacing worked better. Friday again? The week has flown by...

Red Oak.

Yesterday was spent planting the bulbs and plants around the new red Oak the town came to plant. Later in the day time was spent on apllique.
Both of these sections next to the center is done, next will be the flowers that go between the leaves.
Will sew the pieces together by machine and turn it onside out. Normally use a piece of muslin cut on the bias, decided to use light weight interfacing  this time. Many years ago l figured out one could do applique like this for these intricate flowers. The pieces are trimmed with a pair of pinking shears, making the curves more round once one turn them inside out.
The tree came alive and green. It has two stakes to keep it stable for when we get crazy wind gusts.

A surprise start.

A sunny start to the day.  These tulips have yellow Centers, this is the best picture I could get. We had a knock on the door early, the town is bringing our new tree. With the lockdown situations we did not expect to see the town arriving and planting said tree.
Hole dug and the dead tree stump removed. They will be by later to plant the new tree. Always exciting to get a tree, the world needs more trees. Nature giving us a hug and cleaning the air we breathe.
We had to hustle and remove all the plants which was planted in the bed around the tree. They will go back once the new tree is in place, with the box that surrounds it.
It makes cutting the grass a lot more easier too.
These pieces are applique in place.
This is the second one, tacked in place ready for sewing on to the background fabric.
This tall plant survived the winter. It was not covered,  got snow, ice and frost. It is a broccoli plant and it has a tiny broccoli at the top. Very imppresed with this plant. The twiggy plants is the peppers whic was indoors the whole winter.

See-saw tuesday.

The weather is all over the place. Hopefully we will be able to get into a warmer pattern. The cold snap is not what we want or need right now, however it is here. We could finally book our vaccinations, so another step forward.
Prepped all eight of these leaves for the center.
Nine patch blocks are also sewn for RSC21  for the month of May. Will concentrate on the red and white quilt now for the rest of this month. Have prepped a number of different pieces, which can be applique in place.  Yesterday we went for a walk to go and see the trilliums up on the hill.  Also saw the Orioles, two males trying to impress a female who was not interested in either of the two males. Just what we did not expect to see, it was a lovely surprise.
